Hello lovelies,

As amazing as it is to fall in love for the first time, it can also be messy. Although everything happens the way it should, I'm sure most of us would prefer less trauma. This is where I think back to age 16 when I had my first serious boyfriend for inspiration.

What we wish our first real relationship was like:

You went on proper dates like what adults go on. Not milkshakes for breakfast at Milky Lane.

Real flowers were received on Valentines day, not the plastic ones you get at dollar stores.

Fights were not the end of the world, well, they weren't worth skipping meals or crying to sleep for.

You knew that relationships are about kindness and generosity, not looks and popularity.

'I want to be with you forever' was understandably just a compliment.

You didn't plan your kids' names.

You could afford birthday presents that weren't handmade.

You didn't ditch your best friend last thing on a Friday for your 'troubled' relationship.

Phone bills magically disappeared.

You both understood that you had a lot of growing up to do.

So you didn't try to rush things.

Your parents approved of your relationship.

You stood under an umbrella like in the above picture more often.

You didn't break up and get back together so much.

You ended things maturely and strategically hid them from your facebook feed.

And didn't go on a massive FB stalk every day for a year afterwards.

I thought it would be fun if we got to know each other a little better. I'll get the ball rolling with 10 things you might not know about me and then you can share your own 10 things below! Sound fun? YES!

1. I don't immediately know what's left and right.

2. I never ate bubblegum as a child, because I felt sorry for tricking my tummy into thinking I was about to swallow a whole lot of food.

3. I'm a slave to popcorn.

4. I have mild ADD, but many beg to differ (on the degree of mild.)

5. My phobia is when Caspar scratches his nail against his tooth (on purpose!)

6. I've never watched Pearl Harbour, read Harry Potter or made perfect brownies.

7. I cry all the time in movies, yet I can't cry when I read books, even when I try so hard you can hear me from the other room.

8. I become strangely positive when I'm on holiday, like freakishly positive. Even if I lose my passport I'll be smiling cos I know it will be found. It's wak.

9. I had the worst teeth when I was young. They were so bad I had to switch orthodontists because the first one we went to took one look and was like, sorry.

10. I also only grew hair at the age of three.

One thing that really helps get the day going is waking up with a smile on your face. I know, it doesn't happen often. Nobody likes an alarm! But here are some simple tips to help you wake up feeling happier.

Turn off technology an hour before bed

I know it's hard, going on your phone when you get into bed has become a huge habit of our generation, but it's not good for our sleep. Reasearch suggests the light emitted from gadgets disrupts sleep. They emit a lot of blue light, that can suppress melatonin, which is what your body needs to help fall asleep.

Quick tip: Read a book instead or write in your diary. 

Tell yourself to remember your dreams

Having access to your dream world is a treat! I'm talking about those lovely dreams that you want to tell people about the next day. Apparently it is possible to train your brain, by setting an intention, to have good dreams and remember them.

Quick tip: Tell yourself, "No scary dreams tonight, I want nice dreams that make me feel happy!"

Give yourself longer to fall asleep

Some off us can't drift off as soon as our head hits the pillow. So give yourself enough time at night to relax and fade into sleep without stressing yourself out about the lack of sleep you will potentially get.

Quick tip: Give yourself half an hour before bedtime to prepare for sleep. 

Stop thinking!

This is the hardest one for me. I go to bed and try to solve the world's problems in my head. I spose what we need to realise is that there's plenty time in the day to think, so why not give our brains a break last thing at night?

Quick tip: Try meditation. If you don't know how, clear your head by focusing on the darkness behind your closed eyes. Every time a thought comes along, focus again on the darkness. Eventually everything will fade to black. 

You're up so get up

Don't torture yourself in the morning by going back to bed between alarms. If you hate waking up, why do it more than once?

Quick tip: Jump out of bed and get straight into the shower. 

Smile and be positive 

Before you go to bed, or when you wake up in the morning; reflect on the good things in your life. It is so easy to think negatively, but what we forget to realise is that negative thoughts bring a negative life. Be positive and good things will happen, trust me.

Quick tip: Think of three things that you are grateful for.
